This guy is hogging all the equipment

When you find something that works, you just gotta run with it. That’s true in a lot of life, but it’s especially true in fitness. Thus my continuation with Joe Daniels’ kettlebell programs. After having a blast with his Kettlebell Only Muscle Gain program (KBOMG), it made sense to try out his six week program called Kettlebell Complexes.

Unlike KBOMG, Complexes is designed more inside the traditional parameters of kettlebell training: that is using them as a conditioning and calorie burning tool more than bodybuilding. That said, Daniels does still push this as a “recomp” program (short for recomposition: trimming fat while gaining muscle at the same time), it’s not unfair to judge it by those standards.

So, how did my muscle growth go?

  • Body weight: 187 lbs ->189 lbs
  • Arms: ~15.5 inches -> ~ 15.75 inches
  • Legs: ~25 inches -> ~ 25.25 inches

Turns out when you eat more calories you get bigger. And this time around, I ate a lot of calories. But, while some of that was junk calories from parties and vacations, some of that was just I found myself very hungry while doing this one. My watch tells me I shredded through calories pretty much every day and so that made perfect sense.
