I’m sore. I’m beat up. I want more.
As I finish my first year of kettlebell training, Joe Daniels’ Kettlebell Only Muscle Gain Program (KBOMG) seems like a great bow to put on top. An intermediate program, Daniels’ program assumes the lifter has an understanding of basics like the swing, snatch, etc and also introduces a lot more movements and even some circus trick lifts. It was exactly the type of thing I needed to remind me why I’ve been enjoying kettlebell training so much.
While it is an intermediate program, as someone that has done a lot of barbell programming to this point, I felt at home in this design and it seemed like a good bridge between that world and kettlebells. It has a very similar design base, from the tier 1, tier 2, tier 3 progression of each day to the programmed rest weeks, it felt more like an actual program and not just a collection of movements to do for a while.
For some, lifting is the fun we have along the way. But for others, they’d like real, tangible goals being met. Since it’s in the name, muscle gain is to be expected. How did that go for me:
- Body weight: 188 lbs -> 187 lbs
- Arms: ~15.75 inches -> ~15.5 inches
- Legs: ~24.5 inches -> ~25 inches
